News & Updates

October 4th 2010

This weekend was a success! Many of our riders had their first non-Millpond show this weekend, and each and every one earned ribbons. Jewels, Hershey, Michael and Honey did a great job this weekend. Juliana gets the team spirit award for the weekend!!! Lena thanks for the warm-up rides and Donna for schooling Hershey.

I think we all know why the extra lesson each week is important. The competition was really stepped up this weekend. Especially the Varsity! Remember, those courtesy circles have to be big and round! I think Kristin had the best and hardest courtesy circle this weekend. It put her in the ribbons. Lizzy was so still! Lauren and Olivia, great job on that big PERCHERON Darla! Katy learned about moving on and had a great ribbon on Jewels! Kara learned why we practice riding with no stirrups, she had great success on Michael.

Julie drew Honey twice, how lucky! Great use of your head Julie! Madi drew Jewels, good job keeping those wrists straight and head up. Cammy did a great job on Hershey, Waldo is like a big Honey (speedy) but she handled him well. Alex rode the very difficult paint pony, and she laid down an awesome course! I am very proud of all riders! I am also very tired. See you all this week! -Coach Jackie

Under Construction!

The IEA promotes quality equestrian competition to middle and high school students. The mission of the IEA is to introduce students to equestrian sports and to develop an appreciation and understanding of the sport through organized competitions. It provides an affordable alternative to classical showing, giving children at both the high school and middle school level the opportunity to compete in a team environment and prepare them for the college levels at the same time. At the high school level, colleges (both equestrian colleges and universities with emerging NCAA programs) scout for talent, as well as offer scholarships.

Students interested in being a member of the Millpond Team ( “The Futures” for Middle School, or “Varsity” for High School.) may go to the IEA website and register. Your registration form and liability waiver forms should then be brought in to Jackie to be signed and sent in to IEA. All registrations must be received in the IEA office by November 15th 2010.

Initial placement of team riders will be based on ability over fences as assessed by the coach. Riders will be required to participate in a minimum of two(2) one-day shows, and a maximum of five(5) one-day shows. Participation will be both as individuals and as a Team, all individual and Team points will be posted on the IEA website, and become final after 21 days. It is each rider’s responsibility to keep track of their own personal points. (P.S. If someone would like to volunteer as our Team Point Keeper, please contact Jackie.)

*** Important Note! *** All Team members must also be members of the IEA, and will be assigned a back number that MUST be laminated and kept throughout the season before attending your first show!

IEA Teams and Shows are divided into Zones. Florida is a member of Zone Four, which also includes Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Team and Rider show points are accumulated and count towards qualifying for Zone Finals (aka Regional Finals.) Regional Final points qualify for National Finals. For additional information on points, see Rule 4 of the Rules and Regulations Handbook on the IEA website.
